This year we are commemorating John (Higgy) Higginson a Brocks stalwart who mentored many of today’s Club members, who recently succumbed to Cancer.

Nurtured by experienced old sweats in the 'B specials' Higgy progressed from front row lump to become an accomplished prop forward. Higgy paid a full part in club life, both on and off the field. In 1979 he was an enthusiastic member of the touring party to the United States. Participants recall that during matches his shout of 'Geronimo' at kick offs and restarts put fear into the opposition!

Although Higgy moved to Australia some twenty years ago, he kept in touch over the years and, accompanied by his wife Liz ,has attended some of our dinners and VP Lunches. Indeed, he spoke at one recently, and demonstrated fully his joie de vivre and zest for life.

Having played for 25 years Higgy initiated an annual charity match against a Gordon Robertson XV. T-shirts were produced and sold. We aim to replicate this game and Gordon is once again raising a team to play the Presidents XV (Thames Poly & Guests) for Charity. T shirts will be on sale again.

As usual Golden Oldies Laws and coloured shorts for those who need them! There is no age limit in Golden Oldies!!
Please let Gordon or Ash know your availability.

As before we will have a few drinkies after and auction whatever we can in aid of Charity. Last year we raised £500 for good causes - more needed this year. Charities we will be supporting will include: MIND, Cancer Research, SANDS, Meningitis Research as well as Wooden Spoon”
