After last weeks loss Brocks 2's were looking to get back into winning ways and despite meeting an Elthamians side bolstered by more than a few 3rd team players we ran out worthy winners.
Elthamians knew after their meeting a couple of weeks ago that they'd have to man up in the pack but despite drafting in several 3rd team players they still failed to match the Brocks pack. And with the back line playing with pace and decisiveness the result was sealed.
The game started with a usual John Duffy tackle, Elthamians tried to run their center against the grain but he met the wall called John Duffy. Stopped right on the spot and wandering back somewhat confused to his spot in the back set the tone. The next 10 didn't quite go our way with Dave Gearing forced to leave the field after being speared at a ruck by their 22 and with Yusuf Veli having to depart with a rib injury. Thankfully the side was not weakened as Paul Holman and Simon Baker came on.
The pace of Brockleians back line proved to be the decisive point throughout the game. Daniel Duffy getting the back line moving exceptionally well with Chris Fowler picking the holes in the Elthamians defence. The first score game from a well worked blindside move with Kevin Mockler and Matt Hollett putting Zack Baker-Waterman into space and he sprinted down the line to touch down in the corner untouched by a floundering defence. The next score was even better with Daniel Duffy running a loop round his Dad John Duffy before making a lovely pass to Chris Fowler who ran in untouched. The scoring in the first half was rounded off by Tony Wheeler. Only one try was converted and Elthamians managed to get one score back as well leaving a 17-5 half time score.
The second half was better, it may not have been one way traffic but the good play all came from Brocks. Zack Baker-Waterman finished off a fine day with a hat trick with the simple but effective ploy of out sprinting the cover for the corner on two occassions. Tony Wheeler rolled back the years with a second try finding some extra gas to out sprint the desperate defence from a good 50 yards. Ash Baker convinced the Elthamians fly half that he was the best pass option and ran in an interception just to prove that Tony was not the only old man with gas in the back line. There was one more try for Chris Fowler in another good move!
All in all a good come back from last week with Brocks coming good. Three conversions from Zack and one from Daniel when Zack couldn't get the kicking tee on fast enough.
And did I mention that the 22 was a wanker? Not that I'm bitter or anything!
